Doberman Meets Egyptian Pariah: Dog Introdution (PUPPY BALADI!)

Sugar Tree meeting Baladi! This is their very first time ever being introduced to each other. Sometimes I like to introduce Sugar Tree to other dogs on a bed. It allows her to keep a wary watch over the new dog while feeling secure in an area she is comfortable in.

This is not a typical reaction to meeting a new animal for Sugar Tree. She can definitely sense that something is different about this dog.

Baladi is an Egyptian Pariah dog. She was left for dead in Cairo, Egypt and rescued by a kind compassionate man. He brought her to the United States from Egypt and put her in my car.

Pariah dogs are primitive dogs native to a specific location. Primitive in the sense of “relating to an earliest or original stage or state” or “being little evolved from an early ancestral type”.

They are not domesticated and are feral or wild. A familiar example would be the dingoes of Australia. Baladi’s behavior is very jackal-like– which makes sense from her Egyptian origin. She is much different from a domesticated dog and even from a feral one. Hence, Sugar Tree sensing there is something ‘not right’ here.

In this video, Baladi is still a puppy at barely 6 months old. Isn’t she adorable?

I know the video is not the greatest in quality or especially action-packed But it’s nice to have their first time meeting on film when I thought I had lost it. And it is interesting to see their initial reaction to each other– even in a subtle way.

It was great to be able to recover this footage. I was able to get it off an old camera that was broken– as well as some other never before uploaded videos that I’ll be sure to share soon.
