Training a Jack Russell puppy.
Skid my Jack Russell puppy already has the hang of all the basic commands. Just five minutes of training a day and he is learning fast. —- Dec 2012… Looking back the video is a bit intensive! It was only 5 minutes a day and he is/remains my constant companion. I’ll post an updated video of him enjoying himself shortly :).
Update
Skid has gone on to travel all around Scotland, through England, France, Italy, Germany and Switzerland. Thankfully with myself rather than performing in a circus. He has also climbed a number of Scottish mountains and will soon be joining me on some motorcycling adventures too.
I would certainly recommend a crate for a young puppy. Toilet training is so much easier, no damage to furniture ever and within what feels like days but probably a few weeks there is no need for the door or gate on the crate to ever be closed.
Your puppy will feel safer as he has his own space where he knows he can have some peace.
One other thing about toilet training, take your puppy out every hour in the first week. Somehow if possible every few hours during the night too and provide plenty of praise when he or she performs. No scolding or bad reaction to mistakes and it will be sorted.
Remember a dog hates the idea of soiling his/her bedding so they just won’t unless you let them down.
Happy times. A man’s, womans’s and child’s best friend.
Have a listen to my podcast Passing Places of my ongoing travels around Scotland. Skid features in many of them.
I will get back to making videos at some point during the winter months and will film Skid. I never trained him beyond the basics as that is all be both need to enjoy our time together.
