N: In fall 2013, Best Ever Japan in Yokohama released the Walking Talking Puppy, WTP, in Japan only.

A: In China, there was a big trade show called the Canton Fair. There, we met the company that makes the device inside this toy, and heard that they had a new model. At Best Ever Japan, we produce a lot of dog-themed goods, and we thought: If we make our cute puppies into plush toys with the device, they’ll be really great! That was how we came to make the Walking Talking Puppy.

A: When you put a battery in the WTP, switch it on and talk to it, it starts to frisk about, while repeating what you say at a slightly higher pitch, and it keeps moving for about 6-10 seconds.

A: The fabric has been made to feel as much like a real dog as possible, so that touching this toy is therapeutic, too. For example, right now, there are real dogs here; the way their fur curls is different, and so is the color. But we looked for fabrics that give the right texture, so a plush toy poodle feels like a real toy poodle.

A: I found the fabrics at a fabric market when I went to China, and I chose ones we could use for our goods. I also find fabrics through introductions from people at our factory.

A: Next month, we plan to release different types of plush dog that move in the same way. If distributors are interested, we’d also like to sell them in other Asian countries, America, and Australia.
